The FOURTH OF JULY!!!!

Wow. It's that time of year again to start plotting and planning our journeys to the motherland of NJ. Here's the news from Liz about the 4th. Be there or be missed...

IT'S ALMOST HERE !!!     THE FOURTH OF JULY !!!   and we are already planning for the fireworks (hmmmnn) and fun.    I am hoping you can add your sparkle to the day..

The day is July fourth, the time 1:PM.  The party will end when the kiddies get too cranky - and that is for each parent to decide.     All you have to bring is a smile,  a dessert to share, a beach towel and maybe a chair if convenient.  The food and drink will all be here.

We are having 2  special events this year - !. BERNADETTE NOLL WILL BE SIGNING HER NEW BOOK, " MAKE STUFF TOGETHER"  AND EVERY FAMILY WILL RECEIVE THEIR OWN COPY HOT OFF THE PRESS  June 20th..     2.   A BEST DESSERT CONTEST WITH JUDGES AND A BIGGER AND BETTER PRIZE THAN LAST YEAR.

Come and meet the several new babies and new friends who have joined our families this year .   And we will celebrate the lives of Alma and Curtis who went to hang out with Dean.

On July 3rd at 4 PM we will have a memorial for them both with pizza afterwards, all in my back yard.   Join us if convenient.

Pray for sun  and safe trips for all.     hugs, all around,   Liz,  Aunt Liz,  GMa, friend Liz, I met you once Liz, &  neighbor

They returned home tired but happy

Well, one month and one day later, Liz is returning home sweet trailer, this afternoon, March 7th. The infection is healed. The picc line will be removed. Damien is there with her today and Justin arrives tonight. She is happy to get back home and looks forward to some real food, real air and real sunshine too. Thanks for all the prayers. Liz will continue taking them for as long as you can provide!

Miracles do happen!!!

Today, today, today we're having a birthday! TODAY!!! Liz Noll turns 86. And miracles fall from the sky as the test results show that her esophagus is healed, healed, healed. Hallelujah and thank you all! Now let's figure out what we can collectively pray for next. Open wide Lizzie! You can eat again!

Send some love to Liz

Could I ask you a favor? All of you? Starting tonight and every night until my mom's 86th birthday on March 1st, could you set your timers for 9:30 pm eastern time? Then could you spend 3 minutes meditating, praying, loving on her? Her esophagus was torn during a test and it needs some healing. Open your hearts and help close her esophagus. Send some love to Liz in Fort Myers! Thank you!

Hospital days...

You can read a little story about our stay...

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Tonight

Nutrition begins tonight. Through a picc line which was inserted yesterday. Seems absurd that a picc line put in yesterday afternoon can only get the nutrition tonight. But that's the way the ball bounces around here it seems. Can only mix up that yellow lipid rich goop once a day as it takes several hours to get it all together. Looking forward to some sustenance.

Found out today that the hospital stay will be extended one more week. Ugh to that says Liz. That'll make nearly 3 weeks total.

Lizs' Heart on Valentines Day 2011

Hello all,
As it stands now, there won't be valve surgery in the foreseeable future. It seems the issues from the valve arent' great enough to warrant opening her up for a new valve. Risks measured = less risk from the current valve vs. risk from the surgery. My mom is glad about that. The esophagus is painful but is seemingly clearing up as of this afternoon. ENT did the scope yesterday with a camera sent through her nose and down to her esophagus. Amazing little camera. I might be able to stay until Saturday or Sunday - pondering what needs to be shifted around. I would like to stay and then Damien and Sophie arrive on the 26th. Thad has postponed his journey until he gets further news.

Spirits are a little low today but I think it's because of no nutrition. Nothing by mouth for 2 days now and really nothing much even before that. If it goes much longer, we'll try to get a nutrition IV put in (thanks Rita for that info)

Love to all,
Bern

It's Official

one day at liz's

It's official, 126.

That was the yearly count of the grand fourth of July party at Liz Noll's lakeside mental health and healing center in Denville, N.J. The party was by all accounts a smashing event and a joyous day. The weather was hot and the water cool as deep human connections were made and maintained. But the big event on the fourth is just the cherry on the top of the cake that is the summer at Liz's.

The Lakeside center opened early this year, july 25 was the day the first arrivals (this reporter included) started streaming in. As of this writing there are still folks reaping the good will that Liz so generously offers. The official summer open house season officially ends august 13 when the two grandchildren of her 6th son Damien (who when I spoke with him was extremely happy to have his children Terah and Thibault Noll benefiting from extended time in the new jersey wellspring) get on the plane for their return home to France.

Liz's Lakeside Center (LLC) is the site of a month long coming and going of folks happy to be where they are, namely Liz Noll's house in the fat days of summer. Liz generously and cheerfully houses all comers (at times there were up to 2o over night guests). She also provides the food, drink, and requisite transportation and logistics to maintain them. Her actions are the model for the communal living experiment that she produces and guides each year. A Herculean task for anyone, at 85 Liz Noll is still chairing the event with great aplomb.

In brief - Liz Noll: A Valiant Women.
A great shoutout of thanks for her continued being, and her loving example of sharing.

Fourth of July is coming!!!

Have you heard? Of course you have because it's like the 20th annual or something along those lines.

But this year we're adding something new! This year, as always we are asking you to bring a dessert. Sow, what's new you might ask. Well, this year we're having a contest! So bring us your favorite custard, pudding, cobbler, cake, or tart. Bring us your great grandmother's pie or the latest sweet treat you've pulled out of the pages of Martha Stewart's rag. We'll have a host of international judges, prizes and lots of good times to boot!

See you there. Where? At Indian Lake of course. When? The fourth of July as always. Come around one and stay till later than you think you should.

85 - Still Alive and Feeling Fine

Liz Noll celebrated her 85th BIRTHDAY with an all out attack on the local bakery! After purchasing eclairs, cinnamon buns, and chocolate chip cookies along with other bakery delicacies, she proceeded to feast on them throughout the day. Mrs. Noll acknowledged washing them down with bottomless cups of coffee brewed fresh as needed. The celebrant stated that she ate nothing else throughout the day, and that she was content in this both for it's delicious taste and it's sheer folly.

Liz also stated her happiness at receiving birthday greetings from, amongst many others, her 5 adult daughters. She also declared a motherly disappointment in her 4 sons who forget to call and wish her a happy birthday. When this reporter talked with her by phone the day after her 85th BIRTHDAY, while she was warming down in the local hot tub after her daily lap swim in the pool, her errant sons calls were still sheepishly trickling in.

carribean cruise for Liz and Auntie B!!!

TA-DAH!!! Aunty b and I are leaving this Sunday, the 24th for our cruise to the Carribean. It is a first for both of us.

The nice thing is that we go by bus from my park, Siesta Bay, to Fort lauderdale for the boat and return the same way. It makes it very easy and they handle all baggage too. We stop at Key West, Ochos Rio and Grand Caymens -- 7 days total. .

We reserved a room with a balcony since we feel this will be a once and only and figured we would go first class.

Will review the trip upon our return. AMEN!!! and ALL ABOARD!!! Mom, GMa, Liz

Movie Review: Invictus

Aunty, Uncle Frank and I went to see "Invictus" with Morgan Freeman. It is a movie not to be missed. It gives you a great insight into the inner person of Nelson Mandela while giving you an idea how important a sport can be. In this case the sport is Rugby - one of which I knew very little except for the "scrum".

The cast is great and the lesson in the history of the election of Mandela and his efforts to unify South africa are very insightful and exciting. You will certainly feel the excitement of the sport and the events. We loved it........

Reporting to you live...

From sunny Fort Myers, Liz Noll

A few days before the Florida departure

Visited Dean in the Cemetary this morning to have a little chat. Also visited friends there. I found these words on one stone which made I would like to share.

"When you are sorrowful look into your heart and you will see that in truth you weep for that which was your delight".

This impacted me! -- Dean's partner

Jersey Boys review

SPECTACULAR !! At least 4 standing ovations throughout the show! I went last night with Ave, Barry, Gabriella!! and Tim. We went with the Parsippany Adult Education on a charter bus from the high school and came home tired AND really Happy! Singing too!

Even if you don't have a Jersey connection you will love it or I will cheerfully refund your money and label you "impossible ". The music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is so wonderful and joyful;
the story holds you; the staging is very smart and there isn't a bad seat in the house. If you have any Italian it adds a familiar note.

On Tuesdays the show time is 7 PM so you are on your way home by 9:45 PM.

It is a celebratory show, fun and memorable. Go if at all possible - great anniversary event. Your reviewer, Liz Noll

Grandma's Movie Review

Every now and again my mom sends out great movie reviews: heartfelt, personal, and thoughtful. I'm going to start posting them here for all to read. I always appreciate the perspective and thought you might too.

Here goes. The first one for Julie and Julia

Subject: YOU WILL WANT TO SEE THIS

Eunice and I just came from seeing the movie "Julie and Julia". It is a winner! Whether you like to cook or just like to eat (or neither) you will come out happy.

The cast is great and the settings are either Paris or Long Island City, NY. Both are fascinating for different reasons. Since I was a Truant officer in Long Island City on these same streets in years gone by I had an immediate attachment to L.I.C......

The story is real and you get caught up in the lives of both ladies. Two great love stories too. BON APPETIT! The non-cook, Liz

Bernadette - you will be interested too in the struggle to get their books published.

From Liz today...

Saw the cardiologist yesterday A N D he took me off the coumadin. This is a big step and makes life less complicated for me. I won't feel the cold as much , won't have a problem with bleeding and premedicating for other surgurgies, etc.

Have to check my heart rate daily and if it stays in the normal range I will be all set.

Am heading to Misericordia tomorrow for my 62nd reunion. It is always fun. Have a few classmates left , maybe 4 able to attend.

Thank you all for your encouragement. I feel very fortunate to have you all.
